Bold truth: Samus’s death screams aren’t voiced by Jennifer Hale in Metroid Prime 4: Beyond anymore. A new voice takes over the iconic role for this installment, signaling a fresh direction for the series’ soundscape.
Grunt work.
Metroid Prime 4: Beyond has cast American stage and voice actress Erin Yvette as Samus. If or when you plunge into the oncoming onslaughts in Metroid Prime 4: Beyond, you won’t hear Hale delivering Samus’s screams this time around.
Hale, known for voicing Samus across the original Metroid Prime trilogy, has been replaced by Yvette for this release. You may recognize Yvette from prior game work, including Snow White in Telltale Games’ The Wolf Among Us and as Alex in Night School Studio’s Oxenfree. More recently, she voiced Blonde Blazer in Dispatch, AdHoc’s celebrated superhero workplace comedy.
Notably, although Yvette is credited with voicing Samus in Metroid Prime 4: Beyond, the character isn’t a chatty presence. The focus is more on Samus’s effort noises as she traverses the world, with the death scream standing out. Coincidentally, many observers say Yvette’s performance aligns with Hale’s interpretation from Metroid Prime 3.
For more discussions about Samus’s vocal presence, our reviewer Alex recently weighed in on Metroid Prime 4: Beyond’s largely silent protagonist and how the series balances dialogue with atmosphere. You can read that here: Metroid Prime 4: Beyond’s chatty space marines aren’t the problem—Samus is (Eurogamer).
As for the game in general, release is imminent, and players will soon hear Yvette’s expressions in action. Eurogamer’s verdict notes that Metroid Prime 4: Beyond is enjoyable and echoing classic Metroid moments, but it also hints at untapped potential that the game could have explored more fully.
